New Teacher's Editions and Companion Software!

We have just recieved yet another shipment of great classroom materials! Includes are several teacher's editions in Middle School and High School Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies from McDougal Littell.

The best thing about these new additions to the library is that the companion software allows you to pick a topic and find premade lesson plans, activities, and additional resources for the chapter/ unit of your choice. You can also create custom lesson plans using the same software.

Many new materials are available this spring in the ASU CTEL Teaching Resource Library:

Social Studies

“iOpeners” is a series of short nonfiction picture books on various social studies related topics . The books have colorful, magazine quality photos and include features like maps, glossaries or indices. There are 10 social studies titles per level, a six-pack of each title is available. There is also a teacher’s guide for each grade level set.
“Book Treks” is a series of leveled fiction and nonfiction books on a variety of social studies & science topics. Each level has 27 titles including Geography, History, Citizenship and Cultural Awareness. A teacher’s manual is included.

Math

“Family Math” is a series in which activities are designed to engage children and promote success in mathematics. The activities are based on NCTM standards for each level, and were also created with awareness regarding gender and cultural biases often associated with math curriculum. There are three levels; Early, K-6, and Middle School.

Some other recent math items with great kid appeal are:

M&M Math, Apple Fractions, Skittles Riddles, Pizza Fractions, Hershey Kisses Subtraction, Menu Math, and Rainbow Fractions.

We also have 25 new children’s literature titles from the Math/Literature Connections book series and accompanying teacher’s guides. (Titles include Jumanji by Chris Van allsburg, Rooster's off to See the World by Eric Carle, The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins, and How Big is a Foot? By Rolf Myller)

Phonics/Reading

“Ready Readers” is a series of leveled readers which are labeled by skills taught, word count, DRA and Lexile levels. The set has 40 titles.

The “DRA” (Developmental Reading Assessment) is now available in the library. There are two kits; one for K-3 and one for grades 4-8. A training booklet & video are also available.
We have ordered several Scholastic children’s literature titles, and are expecting delivery within a few weeks.

We have over 100 new Scholastic fiction and nonfiction children's literature titles for all K-12 reading levels. ( these include classics like Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days to modern favorites like Avi's Crispin.)

Writing

The “DWA” (Developmental Writing Assessment) is similar to the DRA kit and is also available in the library. There is one kit for each grade K-6. A training booklet is also included.

New Look, New Name

The College of Education Curriculum Lab is now the College of Teacher Education and Leadership Resource Library.

We think it is more of a library than a lab and we have built up a great supply of teaching resources including K-12 textbooks, childrens literature, manipulatives, and professional development titles.

To celebrate our new look, Dr. Haas invited the faculty and staff to a Fall Open House. We were especially pleased to have Dr. Ryan join us.
